A pet owner is undergoing a dispute in his city of Dayton< Kentucky due to a nearly 10 year ban on owning a pit bull dog. This is a deeply personal issue for the man, Mr. Wade after he opened his heart and his home to rescue a couple of dogs in need of a forever home. One of the dogs is a pit bull mix who was not only in need of a home, the animal is deaf.
An animal control officer noted the dogs at Mr. Wade property and told him the dogs had to go. Mr. Wade states that "The other one is a boxer-lab mix. Why can't she be in, why can't I have her? Because she looks like a pit? That's not right."
A ban should not be placed on a dog breed as a whole instead of determining the personality and behavior of each on a basis-by-basis situation. This dog is not even a full breed pit bull and it is clearly handicapped and homeless.
Laws should not target a specific dog breed fully but rather require specific regulations andtraining for pet owners so that the dogs present no harm to them or the community. As Councilman Neary stated, city laws perhaps shouldn't target a specific breed; a broader brush may be needed, he said, to treat all dog owners fairly. We are asking that Dayton lift this ban on the pit bull breed of dog and allow this man to give his pet the home and love it deserves. We are asking for your help through signing and sharing of this petition so that this very needy dog can be given the home and love it deserves.
